How to Write a Press Release
Start with the news
A press release answers who, what, when, where, and why in the first two sentences. Write the headline as a factual statement in active voice, under 150 characters.
Follow with a one-paragraph summary (30 to 300 characters) that stands alone in listings and search results.
Structure the body
Open with the news and a dateline, then support it with details, quotes from real people, and concrete numbers. Keep paragraphs short - one idea each. Aim for at least 100 words; 300 to 500 is typical.
Write in the third person. Avoid exclamation marks, ALL-CAPS headlines, and promotional superlatives; the automated pipeline flags them for review.
Finish with attribution
Every PR-USA release requires a company website, the name the release is issued by, and a contact email; these appear in the details table on your published page.
Add up to five tags to help readers find the release. Choose the single most accurate category.
